COLD
by, Howard Günter Fass
There is that frosty silence.
That killing distance when one’s heart is far away.
Lost in the darkness under a lightless black sky of night I’m the fallen star whose ember orange smoky light is fading in the death white snow of cast-off dreams and frozen tears.
Every step I take now is one too few, too little, too insignificant and just not enough to make enough to be enough to count for much.
Lost in the throngs of yesterday’s beautiful hopeful tomorrows I sink falling beneath the swallowing Holliday waves of festivities sold for cheap tinsel decorations and tacky lights constantly blinking in the dark.
Television static.
Flickering strange shadows cast against a barren wall in the middle of the night.
Broken canned laughter of the unseen audience responding to a joke that was never heard.
Darkness.
Alone.
Silence.

Picture this: a cat is sealed inside a box, accompanied by a Geiger counter, a vial of poison, and a tiny amount of radioactive material. This seemingly absurd scenario is the brainchild of Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger, who introduced it in 1935 as a thought experiment designed to illustrate the perplexing principles of quantum mechanics. Although it sounds like the premise of a bizarre short story, Schrödinger's cat serves a critical purpose; it encapsulates the strange and counterintuitive nature of the quantum world at the sub-atomic level, while simultaneously propelling us into deep philosophical inquiries and metaphysical speculation.
The main intrigue of Schrödinger's cat lies in its entangled fate. While the box remains closed, the cat exists in a superposition relative to the observer: it is simultaneously both alive and dead, two states coexisting at exactly the same time until an observation is made by a thinking mind. This paradox not only challenges our intuitive understanding of reality but also opens a dialogue about the nature of existence, knowledge, and consciousness. Let us embark on a thought-provoking exploration of Schrödinger's cat, traversing the realms of quantum physics, philosophy, and metaphysics, all while ensuring that even the most perplexing concepts remain accessible and engaging.

Nicholas Roerich (1874-1947) was a prominent Russian painter, writer, archaeologist, and philosopher, whose artistic and spiritual pursuits were deeply intertwined. Born in Saint Petersburg, Roerich was a multifaceted individual whose work spanned various disciplines, including fine arts, literature, and cultural preservation. He is perhaps best known for his breathtaking landscapes, often inspired by the majestic Himalayas, and for his profound exploration of spirituality, particularly influenced by Eastern philosophies, including Buddhism.
He remains a significant figure in the realms of art, spirituality, and cultural advocacy. His life and work exemplify the fusion of artistic expression and spiritual inquiry, particularly through the lens of Tibetan Buddhism and Eastern philosophy with a strong emphasis on love through Christian mysticism. Through his travels to Tibet, Roerich not only enriched his own understanding of the vast spiritual landscape but also contributed to a greater appreciation of the cultural and philosophical depth of Eastern traditions in the Western world. His legacy continues to inspire artists, spiritual seekers, and cultural advocates around the globe.

His Holiness the 13th Dalai Lama's Political Last Will and Testament
Prophetic, powerful and all of it came true.
For those of us who look to His Holiness the Thirteenth Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso, with profound faith, his 1932 “last will and testament” is far more than just a piece of political writing. It is the distilled insight of a Bodhisattva statesman who carried the full weight of Tibet’s spiritual and temporal responsibilities on his shoulders, and who, at the very end of his life, spoke with heartbreaking honesty about the impending dangers that were coming to his people and country.
A majestic and strong teaching from one of the greatest political and spiritual leaders in modern history.
Applicable to all and at every level and strata of society.

THE SYNTHETIKA
by, Howard Günter Fass
On the pale white powder beachy sands of nowhere in the land of nothing, do the dark black painted waters in a nighttime’s gentle rocking waves do disgorge it’s putrefaction, the unreal.
The Synthetika.
Fake food.
Fake love.
Fake identity.
Fake news.
Fake society.
Total control.
A slow cold demise for the sleepy who’ve plugged in, closed their eyes in the gerbil hamster iron wheel of a lifetime’s spinning in rapid motion while staying still.
A pathway to the total fiery obliteration for the awakened who’ve left their hamster wheels behind, but lack the wings to fly away.
For the rare pristine few, with open eyes and wings that can fly there is the instantaneous realization.
The pure vision.
What is real comes from within if one only recognizes that they already have eyes, opens them and dares to see without asking permission and seeking answers from no-one.
Only then does the revolution become completed and one actualizes the true liberation.
Free from The Synthetika.

An informal glimpse of the passing roadside on the island of Roatán, Honduras. Tropical, a little rough and completely off the beaten path.
Roatán is an island in the Caribbean, about 65 kilometers (40 mi) off the northern coast of Honduras. The largest of the Bay Islands of Honduras, it is located between the islands of Utila and Guanaja. It is approximately 59 kilometers (37 mi) long, and less than 8 kilometers (5.0 mi) across at its widest point. The island consists of two municipalities: José Santos Guardiola in the east and Roatán, including the Cayos Cochinos, in the west. The island was formerly known in English as Ruatan and Rattan.

An evening view from one of the panoramic windows at the Intercontinental Hotel in Miami.
Super elegant and stylish and the city was gorgeous in the setting sun.
Super elegant and stylish and the city was gorgeous in the setting sun.

I shot this brief scene of a passing cruise ship returning back to dock in Miami. I chose a tight shot to remove the form of the ship and focus the view of only the moving tapestry of honeycomb-like room cabins. Each cabin a story of it's occupant's lives passing by frozen in time.

“Stuck in Cruelty” is a powerful documentary that challenges viewers to confront one of the most overlooked forms of animal suffering in modern society: the use of glue traps as a means of pest control. With compassionate storytelling and compelling investigative footage, the film exposes the inhumane and indiscriminate nature of these devices—showing how small, sentient creatures endure prolonged suffering when caught in their sticky grip. “Stuck in Cruelty” reveals not only the moral cost of this cruel practice but also the viable, humane, and effective alternatives that exist for pest management today.
At its heart, this documentary is a call to conscience. It asks us to reflect on what kind of society we wish to be; one that turns away from cruelty in all its forms, or one that excuses suffering for the sake of a false ineffective convenience. “Stuck in Cruelty” reminds us that compassion and kindness are not limited to companion animals or endangered species, but extend to all living beings, no matter how small or overlooked. The film urges policymakers, businesses, and everyday citizens to act on the moral and public health imperative of banning glue traps across the United States.
In choosing humane solutions, we affirm our shared values of empathy, respect for life, and responsibility toward the world we inhabit together. “Stuck in Cruelty” is not just a documentary, it’s a movement toward a more compassionate future.

Be careful with your mind...

The decline and eventual collapse of the Western Roman Empire has been attributed to a variety of factors: economic decay, military overextension, external invasions, and political instability. Yet one of the most decisive, though often debated, catalysts was the rise of Christianity.

Dedicated to the vibrant good-hearted soul that is Peabody, Massachusetts.
There's no other place quite like it, with its beautiful blend of Portuguese, Dominican, Brazilian, Albanian and Greek cultures. You know you're in the right place when they only take cash and there's no wall to wall tv monitors at the local watering holes and $10 buys you more than you need with plenty to share.
Viva la Peabody!
